YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE AND FINDING WORK EXPERIENCE
All year 10 learners will be offered the opportunity to a work experience placement in term 6. This placement usually takes place over two weeks.

Rivermead School can use the services of MEBP to find work experience placements for our learners and they will have opportunity to specify what sectors they are interested in. MEBP work hard to match the learners with a placement that the learners have said they are interested in, however, it cannot always be possible to get the industry that the learner wanted and they will be offered an alternative.

We welcome any placements that learners have sourced themselves, and all placements will be subject to the school's validation and health and safety checks before the placement has been agreed. The school also needs adequate time to carry out these checks so last minute requests cannot be fulfilled.
VIRTUAL WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITIES
During the course of the Covid 19 pandemic, virtual work experience placements have grown and have become more accessible to young people all over the country. This means that you have the opportunity to do virtual work experience with major platforms such as Springpod and Speakers For Schools collating and offering placements from major employers in various sectors. Most placements take place in school half term breaks and holidays and some offer the ability to watch recordings if any live sessions are missed. With most placements, availability is limited and some state age and location requirements so please check the information before you apply. Please note, if you apply for a placement, it does not mean that you will be accepted for the placement. You will have further communication to find out if you have been offered a place.

How to sign up with Springpod
-
Please let Mrs Mallia know that you are interested in a virtual work experience placement with Springpod and you will then receive an invite on your school email account from Springpod. Click on the links within the email to create an account and search for lots of virtual work experience placements. Signing up via this route and using your school email account will link your account with the school, and we will be able to see which placements you have signed up with and offer support if needed. To access your school email account, go to Office 365 Login | Microsoft Office and enter your school email address and password to sign in. This would be the same information you would use to access Microsoft Teams when you are in school or when you were learning from home. If you haven’t received an email, please speak to Mrs Mallia.

How to sign up with Speakers For Schools
Speakers For Schools works slightly different and requires a lot more input from the school.
-
Use this link to create an account, Experience Students > Take Part (s4snextgen.org), making sure you select ‘Rivermead School’ in the dropdown menu. You don’t have to use the school email account if you don’t want to and you can use your personal one. By selecting ‘Rivermead School’ you will be linked to the school account where we will be able to see any placements you apply for, or will be able to match you up with some that we think will interest you.
-
Every application requires actions from school staff and the school will need to confirm that permission from a parent/carer has been gained for the young person to take part in this virtual work experience placement. Once complete, only then will the application be sent to the relevant placement.

If you have any questions relating to careers or work experience, please feel free to contact Mrs Mallia.
