We have enjoyed celebrating National Careers Week across our 3 sites.
To celebrate National Careers Week 2026, Rivermead School delivered a highly successful multi‑site “What’s My Job?” careers event, organised by Tori Rann, supported by careers champions David Rose and Kara Harwood, offering meaningful and engaging employer encounters for learners across all three Rivermead sites. Learners from Year 7 through to Post‑16 took part in the interactive sessions, which were carefully designed to reflect their interests, passions, and emerging aspirations. Employers included representatives from MHS Homes, KCC Trading Standards, a lorry driver, a school office manager, a youth worker, an AI developer, a senior thermal calibration scientist, a designated search team officer, a self‑employed beauty therapist, and others from a range of diverse and specialist professions. Throughout the day, learners demonstrated excellent engagement, asking thoughtful questions, showing curiosity, and building confidence in their social communication skills. A key feature of the event was the discussion around Supported Internships and Apprenticeships, with all visiting professionals sharing information about the routes they offer, the skills required, and the real opportunities available for young people entering the workplace. The event also highlighted the importance of showcasing “hidden careers” -roles many learners had never encountered before, which broadened their understanding of the world of work and sparked genuine interest in new potential pathways. The atmosphere throughout the day was positive, inclusive, and inspiring, reflecting Rivermead’s ongoing commitment to high‑quality careers education and preparation for adulthood. It was truly a fantastic day for all involved.
Learners have also visited local businesses with a questionnaire They had a visit from Forward2Employment to learn more about Supported Internships, Pathways opened their own café for people to visit for one day only, they took part in 'What's My Job' and had a visit from our Enterprise Advisor, Marie Colgan, from the Department of Work and Pensions to look at how soft skills can be used in different jobs. It has been fantastic to hear learners confidently speak to employers in a two-way interaction and show excitement for their future prospects!
